Christine Anne (Peters) Carlson

Christine Anne (Peters) Carlson, age 84, died on Monday, September 26, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at Mount Zion United Methodist Church with Pastor Susan Landry officiating.

Christine was born on November 7, 1931 in Newberry, Michigan, the daughter of Harold and Christine (Collins) Peters. She grew up in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and graduated from Manistique High School in 1949. She then attended the Northwest Institute of Medical Technology in Minneapolis and accepted her first job in the Clinic at West Point, Nebraska. In West Point she met her future husband, Ernest Carlson. They were married for 63 years and lived in several states due to her husband’s job transfers.

They are the parents of three daughters: Kim (Drew) Sitton of Powder Springs, GA; Karma (Todd) Vander Velde of Rock Valley, IA; and Kerri (Mariusz) Sumlinski of Gaithersburg, Maryland. They also have six granddaughters, 1 great granddaughter and in March 2015 a great grandson, the first boy in the family for over fifty years! She is survived by her husband Ernest Carlson, one sister, Priscilla (Art) Scharer (Michigan), four brothers in law and one sister in law and many nieces and nephews.

Christine was an active member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church where she taught children’s Sunday School, belonged to Early Bird Circle, and the Margaret Yarbrough Sunday School class. She worked for WellStar for 22 years; first in the laboratory at Kennestone and then in the lab at Windy Hill Hospital. She loved her job, her church and most of all her family. She enjoyed working and visiting with people. Christine was a creative lady who enjoyed sewing, quilting, and a variety of crafts. She also loved music, poetry, birds and plants. Christine was preceded in death by her parents and her older sister, Beverly Schaefer.
