He was born in 1949 to Lienhard and Ruth Anna Gersmehl in Janesville, WI.
He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Lacrosse and he retired from Delta Airlines.
In his spare time he enjoyed spending time with his family, loved ones and friends. He also loved traveling and playing golf.
David is preceded in death by his father Lienhard Gersmehl, his mother Ruth Anna Gersmehl and sister Carol Traynor.
He is survived by his wife Helen, his sons David (wife Chancey), Drew (wife Kathryn) and his adoring grandchildren Charlie, Madelyn, David III (Tripp), Anna and Andrew. David is also survived by his brother Jonas Gersmehl and his sisters Maggie Vale (husband Clark Poston), Chris Gersmehl and Betsy Oliveira.
