father and brother, passed away suddenly and tragically.
Dave was born on January 10, 1972, in Marietta, GA, to Jerald David Henson
and Bettye Freeman Halliburton, and was the younger brother of Elizabeth
(“Beth”) Henson. David grew up in Marietta and graduated from Wheeler
High School in 1990. Dave attended his beloved University of Georgia,
graduating in 1996 with a degree in journalism.
He met his wife and soulmate, Shana Sloan Henson, in Athens, GA, while she
was finishing at UGA and he was working at his first post-college job with The
National Auction Group. They married in 2002 and had two beautiful
children - Sloan Elizabeth Henson and Jacob David Henson. They lived in
Woodstock in GA from 2002-2019. In 2019 Dave and Shana accomplished
their dream of moving back to Athens, GA, where it all began. Dave finally felt
like he was “home.” Another dream was realized by the forever family
memories they were able to make on Saint Simons Island.
Dave was a kind, loyal and gentle soul. He cared deeply about those close to
him, and was a selfless and giving family man. Dave loved his children with all
his heart and was so very proud of them. He was a son, brother, husband,
father, uncle and in-law, and he excelled in every one of these roles - to be
loved by Dave was a wonderful thing.
Dave loved spending time with family and close friends, real estate projects,
maps and all things geography. He loved learning new things and was an avid
reader of the newspaper and other factual articles.
Dave was a rabid UGA football fan, even during the not-so-great years. He
received the best 50th birthday gift he could have asked for - a UGA
football championship on January 10, 2022.
Dave is survived by his wife, Shana Sloan Henson; his children Sloan
Elizabeth Henson and Jacob David Henson; his sister Elizabeth (“Beth”)
Henson; his nephew Aaron Zancosky; his in-laws Stephen Sloan, Sybil Sloan,
Josie Sloan and Lisa Garvey; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
