Dennis Wayne Hastings of Marietta, Georgia, transitioned to his heavenly home at 9 p.m. on Monday, December 2, 2013. Dennis was surrounded by family and close friends in his home as he was finally released from a courageous journey with lung cancer and all of the complications that resulted over many years. Dennis was born in LaPorte, Indiana, to the late Casmira and Donald Hastings and graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering after serving as officer in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He is and will always be lovingly treasured and sorely missed by his wife, Linda Hastings; son, Brendan Hastings; daughter, Allison Hastings and her husband Will Laney, granddaughters, Katie and Carinne Laney; brother, Duane Hastings and his wife Sharon, and an abundance of individuals whose lives he influenced and enriched. Dennis was a unique individual whose supreme intellect, absolute integrity and unwavering generosity were never in doubt amung those who knew him. He had a knack for putting life’s events in perspective and choosing what really matters. Dennis cofounded and owned and operated a national design/build firm for almost 30 years that provided the highest level of quality and service and set the standard for excellence in the industry. Over his lifetime he traveled extensively internationally and had a gift for enjoying and respecting all that life had to offer. He left this earth having achieved completion and peace and the satisfaction of living an honest, dedicated life full of love and joy, no matter the challenges. A tribute and celebration of Dennis’ life is scheduled for early January with details to be announced. The family encourages donations in his name to the Lung Cancer Alliance, PO Box 418372, Boston, MA 02241 8372, www.lungcanceralliance.org.
