Mrs. Dorothy Wilson Summerour

She is preceded in death by her husband Henry Summerour; parents, W.A. and Sallie Mae Wilson; and siblings Brock Wilson, Marie Merritt, Frances Futo, and Catherine Cagle. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Larry H. and Sue Summerour of LaGrange, and grandchildren, Susan (Charlie) Middlebrooks of LaGrange, Jenny (Malcolm) McTaggart and John Summerour of NYC; great granddaughter, Ella McTaggart, and numerous nieces and nephews.

On August 26, 2007, Dorothy was officially pronounced Matriarch of Mount Bethel United Methodist Church in Marietta. She joined Mt. Bethel in September 1935 and was the oldest living member.

Dorothy loved Mt. Bethel UMC and was happy that the church now has almost 10,000 members. Because of people like her, Mt. Bethel is now one of the most effective and evangelistic churches in the United States. She also loved and supported all the Mt. Bethel ministers. In fact, she never criticized any minister of the church. She especially loved the present pastor, Dr. Randy Mickler and asked him to give the eulogy at her funeral.

Dorothy very much loved her family. Her son Larry says that he was always blessed by having such wonderful parents. A special word of thanks goes to daughter-in-law Sue who was more like a daughter. She loved Dorothy and Henry and was an outstanding caregiver. Thanks also to the grandchildren and great granddaughter who were indeed a treasure Dorothy often talked about.

Just before she died Dorothy made two important statements. First, she knew she was dying. Second, she said she was ready to go. What a great testimony to a woman who was a devout Christian.

Services will be at Mt. Bethel UMC on Tuesday morning, April 8 with visitation from 10:00-l1:00 and the service at 11:00. Burial will be in Mt. Bethel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Bethel UMC or to the Mt. Bethel cemetery fund. H.M. Patterson & Son Canton Hill Chapel is honored to be handling her arrangements.
