Ed was born on May 17, 1938 in Bronx, NY to Edmund and Beatrice (Winters) Comerford. He signed up to serve in the Navy after graduation from Blessed Sacrament HS in New Rochelle, NY in 1956. Upon his Naval discharge, he worked for the United States Postal Service in Manhattan, NY until his retirement in 1990.
In his younger years, he coached, and later umpired Little League Baseball in the Wakefield section of the Bronx. Once a Yankee Fan, upon relocating to Atlanta, he committed himself to the Braves which was a constant source of irritation to his son and grandsons. He loved to watch football with his family – HS, College, NFL, it didn’t matter! He reveled in all of it. Ed also loved the Lassiter Marching Band (although his grandchildren attended Walton & Pope). He was so proud of the band when they performed in Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and happily shared the stories of the band’s accomplishments with anyone he spoke to.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Elizabeth Vuolo; his brother-in-law, Robert Castelli; sister-in-law, Marianne Castelli; and son-in-law, Michael Rosa. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, JoAnn (Castelli) Comerford; his children; Kathy Rosa, Pat & Michael Falotico, John & Christine Comerford, Michele Fret; his grandchildren; Matthew & Lauren Rosa, Alexis (Comerford) & Corey Jones, Karin (Rosa) and Anthony Morano, Michael Falotico & Haley Humiston, Zachary Comerford, Anna Falotico, Julia Fret and Tiana Fret; his great-grandchildren; Michael Morano and Lilah Rosa; his brother-in-laws; Andrew Vuolo and Vincent Castelli; his sister-in-law, Janet Castelli, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
