Eddie was born in Augusta, Georgia on July 21, 1941 to William Watson and Edna Mary Rhoades. He graduated from Manchester High School and served in the U.S. Army. He retired from Lockheed Georgia. After retirement, he dedicated his time to his passions: gardening and music. Eddie was a Master Gardener for over 40 years and a member of multiple garden clubs and garden writer’s associations including the American Garden Writers of America (now Garden Communicators International) and his yard is filled with the literal fruits of his gardening labors.
Eddie spent the past few years writing, recording, and performing music along with his brother, Robert Rhoades, most recently starting the Rhoades Brothers Music Publishing Company. He recorded and published 3 CDs of his original songs.
Eddie is survived by his wife of 57 years, Linda Sosebee Rhoades, his two daughters, Amanda “Amy” Flanagan and Mindi Rhoades, their partners, Ken Flanagan and Mollie Blackburn, and his seven grandchildren: Noah, Liam, Lydia, Landon, and Leilani Flanagan and Blais and Dottie Blackburn. He is also survived by his brothers William Odell Rhoades and Robert Rhoades, his sisters Becky Belt and Jackie Scarborough, and his sisters-in-law Dot Blum and Bonita Guest.
A Celebration of Life for Eddie will be held at 11:00 o’clock, Saturday, August 5th, 2023, at Georgia Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery Chapel, 2000 Cobb Parkway S.E., Marietta, GA 30060. Eddie’s family will receive guests, one hour prior, to the service. Guest’s will also be received, in a reception, following the service. Eddie’s Urn, will be committed at a later date.
