

It is with heavy hearts we share that Elizabeth Warner Humphreys Jones Bozzuto, passed away peacefully, on July 14, 2026. She was surrounded by loved ones at her home in Indian Hills, Marietta, Georgia. Though we grieve her loss we are joyful that she has left her earthly body and is with the Lord she loved.
Born December 22, 1937 in Fairfax County Virginia, Liz was a member of the varsity cheerleading squad & women’s basketball team. After a year of college at George Mason University, Liz married Air Force Fighter Pilot, Lt Col Edwin C. Jones, Jr. They welcomed four children together in the following 7 years.
As a military spouse, Liz began her life of volunteerism as a "Candy Stripe Nurse" during the three years the family was stationed in Itazuke, Japan. While stationed in Bitburg, Germany, Liz volunteered at the charitable Officer's Wives Club thrift store and was voted in as the club's president for over a year. Also in Bitburg, Liz sang in the base church choir and was a featured soloist in an annual performance of Handel's Messiah. Throughout her life Liz was devoted to her faith, love of God and love of singing praises to her Heavenly Father.
While a stay at home mother of four children, Liz completed her Bachelor’s Degree from Wright State University in 1973. She went on to receive a Master of Science in Education: Counselor Education and Human Services from the University of Dayton, class of 1975. Liz began her professional career as a juvenile probation officer in Dayton, Ohio.
In 1977, Liz moved from Ohio with her daughter, Melissa to Marietta, Georgia. She began a career as a high school counselor at Wheeler High School. During her years with the school system, Liz was most proud of the program she helped to develop and the Federal Grant they received for Cobb County Crisis Intervention. It was recognized as one of the "Thousand Points of Light" under President George H.W. Bush’s education initiatives.
In June of 2001, Liz married retired Air Force pilot, Chuck Bozzuto. She relocated to Arizona to be with him as he battled cancer. During their brief marriage they were able to travel and spend time with his children, grandchildren and his family in Connecticut.
Liz's love of golf and her Irish heritage were surpassed only by her love for her friends and desire to help anyone she encountered in need. Liz loved visiting and hosting friends and extended family both near and far. She loved sharing tales of her travels and adventures with her friends and hearing their stories as well. After retiring, she was able to check Israel, Egypt and New Zealand off her bucket list.
Liz is preceded in death by her parents, Charles & Roselle Humphreys, sister, Mary Anne, brother, James, daughter Melissa Hopson (Steve), husband Charles Bozzuto, and son-in-law Lorenzo Owen (Juli).
Liz is survived by her children, Juli Owen (Lorenzo), Edwin Clark Jones III (Gwen) and Dayna Jones, grandchildren Adam Jones (Yvonne), Kevin Jones, Christine Jones, Sarah Jones and Elizabeth Spencer Jones, great granddaughters, Amelia Jones and Juniper Melissa Jones.
A family visitation and reception will be held on Friday, June 17, 2026 from 2 pm - 4 pm at H.M. Patterson & Son-Canton Hill, 1157 Old Canton Road NE, Marietta, GA 30068. Interment will be at a later date in the Humphreys’ family plot in Manassas, Virginia.
The family would like to thank the Willowbrook Hospice nurses and CNAs, Courtney, Sherry, AnneStella, Shea and Fatou. Your compassionate care made it possible for Liz to be at home.
