Elmer Jackson Poole
February 25, 1928 – June 8, 2020
Elmer Jackson Poole died June 8, 2020, at Hearthstone Memory Care located at Presbyterian Village in Austell, GA, after a long illness.
He was born in Lyons, GA, on February 25, 1928, to the late Theodore and Maggie Poole, who predeceased him, along with his sister, Martha Sue Poole.
Before retiring from his own business, Roberds Sewing Machine and Vacuum Repair, he also owned a Stretch & Sew franchise with his wife, worked as an auditor for Southeastern Sales and Service and was an auditor for The Piedmont Hotel in Atlanta. He was a Lay Witness Minister with the Methodist Church, worked for many years with Habitat for Humanity, Mountaintop Boys Ranch, and many other community projects. He worked many years on the Angel Tree project for Christmas Kids at Mt. Bethel Methodist Church, and contributed many hours and donations to Must Ministries and The Garden. He liked to do things undercover and never sought the spotlight. If anyone needed something done, he was one of the first to support it.
He enjoyed boating, fishing, gardening and he could fix anything. He probably taught more people to waterski than anyone you might know, and was famous for being able to get even the most difficult, water-fearful skiers up out of the water. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and having the family gather at his home on Lake Oconee.
He loved to read, and always had a western novel in his pocket. He served in the Army, and was sent to Japan in September 1946, 5 days after he was married. His son-in-law, Bill Dixon, remarked that he had never heard anyone say a bad word about Elmer Poole.
He is survived by his wife, Lucile Lynn Poole, daughter Brenda Dixon (Bill), son Jerry Poole (Bill), granddaughter Christy Archibald (Neil), grandson Scott Dixon (Christy), great-grandsons Carter Dixon, Ethan Archibald, Owen Archibald, great-granddaughters Kayla Dixon and Sadie Archibald.
Due to the COVID-19, a private committal will be held. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Presbyterian Village Caring Hands, 2000 East-West Connector, Austell, Georgia, 30106. Georgia Memorial Park Funeral Home, 2000 Cobb parkway SE, Marietta, Georgia, 30060.
