Emery Camille Funkhouser

Emery Camille Funkhouser is now the angel in heaven that she was on Earth. She lost a hard fought battle with CHD September 4, 2015. Emery was born July 30, 2008 with a congenital heart defect called, hypoplastic left heart syndrome. One of the most complicated and fatal CHDs, she survived 3 open heart surgeries including a heart transplant at 20-months old. We celebrated the miracle of a new heart and one she received after waiting less than 24 hours. Her heart gave us 5 cherished years of good health that allowed Emery to grow, play with her brother & friends, and share her compassion & acceptance of everyone she knew. She is known for her intelligence, humor, her wonderful laugh and the fact that she made an impact on every single person she knew.

May 29, 2015 Emery was admitted to the hospital due to rejection of her heart. After weeks of treatment it was determined she needed a new heart. We knew the wait would be long due to her circumstances and she endured those days with strength and courage however was not able to survive until her new heart arrived. She was surrounded by friends and family the entire time she fought her last battle as a heart warrior. She laughed, loved and sassed her way into everyone’s hearts. She is survived by her parents, Keely & Phillip Funkhouser, her adoring brother, Colin.

A memorial service will be held in Emery’s honor Saturday Sept. 12, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Patterson & Son Canton Hill Funeral Home, 1157 Old Canton Rd, Marietta, GA 30068.
