

Ermadine was reared in the African Methodist Episcopal Church and later converted to Catholicism. She became a member of the Catholic Church of the Transfiguration in Marietta, GA in 2001.
Ermadine received her early education in the public school system of Sussex County Delaware. She graduated from William C. Jason Comprehensive High School in Georgetown, Delaware. Ermadine continued her education at Delaware State College where she majored in Home Economics. She became a member of Delta Sigma Theta, Incorporated, and was initiated in Epsilon Alpha Chapter Spring 1962. Ermadine also attended St. John’s College in Santa Fe, New Mexico where she obtained a Master’s Degree.
On September 27, 1963, Ermadine married her high school sweetheart, Talmadge Mays and to this
union they were blessed with a daughter, Berjetta Mays.
In 1966, Ermadine began a career in The District of Columbia Public School System where she was an educator for more than 30 years. She relocated to Marietta, Georgia in 1999. Ermadine began substitute teaching for the Cobb County Public Schools System, primarily at Sprayberry High School where she was loved by the faculty, staff and students.
Ermadine was a military wife and lived at Fort Benning in Columbus, Georgia and Bolling Air Force Base in Washington, DC.
Ermadine was an international traveler. She loved being on the go.
On Saturday, July 16, 2022, Ermadine peacefully transitioned from labor to reward at the Wellstar Tranquility Hospice Center in Austell, Georgia, surrounded by her loved ones. She is now reunited with her parents and other loved ones.
Ermadine was a devoted mother and grandmother.
Ermadine leaves a legacy of love and devotion to her loving sister, Carolyn (Oscar) V. Rickards Williams of Marietta, GA; daughter Berjetta Mays Thompson; special daughter Stephanie (John) Hampton of Washington, DC; special sons Andre (Gina) James of California, Brandon (Theresa) Feraren of Washington, DC; grandchildren Taylor and E. Alexander Thompson of Smyrna, GA; Special grandchildren, Shawn (LaToyia) Hampton of Washington, DC, Stephon (Monica) Hampton of Ft. Washington, MD and Shavon Hampton of Washington, DC; Special great grandchildren Braylon, Brielle, Bryce, and Kayden Hampton; special cousins Geneva Higgins Scott and Richard G. Simms of Delaware, Warren Chauncy Higgins of Pennsylvania and Eva Walker of South Carolina. Special friends include Marian Bell Bohannon and Lilly and David Ingersoll of Florida and Mary Mays from Delaware. Ermadine also leaves a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and very close friends.
