Reverend Eugene William Bensch passed away peacefully at the age of 92, on Friday, September 23rd, 2022, at The Tranquility Hospice Center in Kennesaw, GA, surrounded by family. He was born in Monroeville, OH, on August 19th, 1930. Following in his father’s footsteps, he became a Lutheran Pastor. He met the love of his life, Barbara, and married her after 5 years of dating. They loved each other deeply for their 65 years of marriage and daily practiced their strong faith.
He served in many churches during his ministry as a Lutheran Pastor including Peace Lutheran (Beavercreek, OH), St. Matthews Lutheran (Cridersville, OH), Bethel Lutheran (St. Claire Shores, MI), Grace Lutheran (Columbus, OH), Springboro Lutheran (Springboro, OH), Trinity Lutheran (Circleville, OH), and was a member of the Ohio, Michigan, and Southeastern Synods. He also held interim pastor positions at Holy Cross Lutheran (Duluth, GA), Lutheran Church of the Incarnation (Marietta, GA), and First United Lutheran (Kennesaw, GA). Following his retirement, he was an active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church (Marietta, GA) and continued serving as a supply preacher, as long as he was able to.
Following his many years of ministry, he embraced retirement and enjoyed woodcarving, volunteering, and traveling, especially to visit his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He found joy in loving others, caring for those in need, spending time with his family, and eating ice cream. His family remembers him as a wonderful role model of the Christian faith, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who always made time to celebrate their wins and be supportive in their losses. He will continue to be loved and remembered by those who knew him, but we rejoice in the knowledge that he is now with his Lord and Savior that he so faithfully served and loved during his life on earth. We all look forward to seeing him again!
He was preceded in death by his parents, Reverend Emil W. Bensch and Elnora E. Bensch, and siblings, Donald Bensch and Ruth Poehlitz. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara of Roswell, GA; son Timothy (Terri) Bensch of Annapolis, MD; daughters Rebecca (Doug) Spangler of Manchester, TN, and Judy Hausfeld of Roswell, GA; grandchildren Peter (Rita) Bensch, Katie Bensch (Dan Krivonak), Alle (Jared) Campbell, Landon (Rachel) Spangler, and Kelsey (Andrew) Pocock, great-grandchildren Gavin Smit, Harper and Brody Campbell, Peyton Pocock and numerous nieces and nephews, close family, friends and Don Hausfeld.
Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2022 at 4:30pm at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church at 2922 Sandy Plains Road, Marietta, GA 30066. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that you give to the Lutheran World Relief so that his mission of caring for others in need can be continued.
