Eugene Webster Brenneman

Eugene Webster Brenneman, 87, of Canton, Georgia, passed away on August 22, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, perseverance, love, and service. Born on January 7,1939, to Webster and Mabel Brenneman, Eugene spent much of his childhood on a farm in McHenry, Maryland, surrounded by extended family. Those early years shaped him with a steady work ethic, resilience, and determination which guided his entire life.

A 1957 graduate of Northern High School, Eugene later earned his degree from the University of Maryland. He began his career working at a large factory in Pennsylvania before working with Allis-Chalmers and Deutz in the agricultural machinery field. Yet one of the clearest marks of his character was watching him put family first. When career moves brought frequent relocation, Eugene chose a different path for his children to enjoy stability and put down lasting roots. In the following years, he worked faithfully in many roles, including teacher at Marietta Christian School, salesman, and owner of a landscaping business, always committed to providing for those he loved.

At the heart of Eugene’s story included his lifelong love for JoAnne. Though they first met at just four years old at church, their love story truly began in high school, leading to their marriage on July16,1960. Together they shared nearly 66 years of marriage, building a home filled with devotion, strength, and grace. Four children blessed their life together. Cheryl and Paul were born while they were living in Pennsylvania. Joyce and Susan were born after moving to Georgia in 1969. They proudly welcomed five grandchildren who brought them tremendous joy.

An integral part of Eugene’s life revolved around his faith in God. He served his church with humility and dedication through working with the children’s bus ministry, teaching Sunday School, serving as a deacon, and singing in the choir.

Later, his passion for serving others found a special home in The Gideons International, where he and JoAnne faithfully shared the hope of the Gospel and worked tirelessly to place God’s Word into the hands of others. He shared the Gideon vision with many churches across Georgia.  

He served as the President of the North Fulton Gideon Camp for 10 years, State Coordinator for the Gideon Card Program for three years, and Director of Area 4 covering Fulton, Cherokee, and Forsyth Counties for three years. He often shared stories of how Gideon Bibles saved someone’s life or completely changed them forever.

He will be remembered as a man of quiet generosity, deep conviction, and steadfast love. As a patient and encouraging father, a devoted grandfather, and a faithful friend, his life reminds us where true greatness is often found in simple faithfulness, selfless service, and a heart committed to God and family. He especially enjoyed traveling with his family and grandchildren, reading, spending time outdoors, and simply being together for family activities. He relished many of the baked goods lovingly made by JoAnne.

Though he will be deeply missed, his example will continue to inspire all who knew him.

Eugene was preceded in death by his beloved wife, JoAnne, and his parents, Webster and Mabel Brenneman. He is survived by his four children, Cheryl Wilson and her husband Dwayne, Paul Brenneman, Joyce Glass, and Susan Yuen and her husband Jason; five grandchildren, Brandon Wilson (Anne), Jacob Brenneman, Benjamin Brenneman, Bryant Glass (Natalie), and Harper Yuen; along with other family members and friends whose lives he deeply touched by his faith, generosity, and devotion to those he loved.

Visitation will be held at Lebanon Baptist Church, 11250 Crabapple Road, Roswell, Georgia 30075, on August 29, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by the Funeral Service at the same location from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.

A Committal Service will take place at Georgia Memorial Park Funeral Home & Cemetery, 2000 Cobb Pkwy SE, Marietta, Georgia 30060, on August 29, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm.
