

Dr. Hendrix was born in Columbia, NC. He earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science from North Carolina State University. He served as a captain in the US Army Reserves. He was awarded his PhD in plant pathology from the University of California – Berkley.
In addition to being a Professor Emeritus at the University of Georgia for over thirty years, he did research in Asheville, NC with the US Forest Service. He did consulting and research for DuPont Corporation. He was in charge of crop research for the State of Georgia Department of Agriculture and was instrumental in the development and cultivation of peaches, apples, pecans and numerous other species in the state. As a result of his research, the blight on the native dogwood was stopped.
Dr. Hendrix is survived by his wife, Rosemary Kromidas Hendrix; his brother, James W. Hendrix and his devoted caregiver and friend Emma King.
A visitation will be held from 4:00-6:30pm with a prayer service on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at H.M. Patterson & Son – Canton Hill, 1157 Old Canton Rd, Marietta, GA 30068.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at Holy Transfiguration, 3431 Trickum Rd, Marietta, GA 30066. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
