Frederick John King

Born on January 27, 1943, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Fred was the son of Charles W. King and Natalie Poché. He spent his early years in Atlanta and Marietta, Georgia, graduating from Sprayberry High School in 1961. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Georgia in 1965.

Following graduation, Fred proudly served his country in the United States Army. Commissioned through Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning in Columbus, Georgia, he completed Adjutant General School in Indiana before being assigned to Germany, where he served for three years and attained the rank of Captain. After receiving an honorable discharge, he returned home to Marietta.

In 1966, Fred married his college sweetheart, Kathleen Edmondson King. Together they shared 60 wonderful years of marriage, building a life centered on faith, family, and love.

Fred and Kathleen were blessed with two sons, Chris C. King of Fernandina Beach, Florida, and Kevin J. King of Marietta, Georgia. He was an immensely proud grandfather to five beloved grandchildren: Kady (King) Bubak, Kenly (King) Hacker, Fletcher King, Kramer King, and Slater King.

Family was always at the heart of Fred's life. He treasured every opportunity to support his sons and grandchildren, enthusiastically attending countless sporting events and activities. Whether cheering from the sidelines or celebrating their accomplishments, his encouragement, love, and unmistakable voice could always be counted on. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose love for his family was evident in everything he did.

Throughout his professional career, Fred worked as a terminal manager and regional sales representative for several transportation companies. He later owned bicycle and skateboard shops, where he shared his passion for cycling with his sons and many others in the community. Before retiring in 2004, he

spent twelve years as a middle school teacher in Cartersville, Georgia, where he enjoyed helping guide and inspire his students.

Retirement allowed Fred and Kathleen to fulfill their love of travel, exploring destinations around the world together. Cruising was his favorite way to travel, and he especially enjoyed visiting historical sites and museums. His outgoing personality and genuine interest in others made meeting people from different cultures one of his greatest joys. Fred will also be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, quick wit, and warm friendship.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Fred coached youth football and soccer in Marietta and Sandy Springs, Georgia. He also enjoyed playing tennis on men's ALTA doubles teams and remained committed to staying active through regular workouts and daily walks. An avid college football fan, he was a devoted supporter of the Georgia Bulldogs.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Charles W. King and Natalie Poché King.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Kathleen Edmondson King; his sons, Chris C. King and Kevin J. King; his five cherished grandchildren, Kady Bubak, Kenly Hacker, Fletcher King, Kramer King, and Slater King; his sister, Natalie (King) Clapp; his uncle, Kenneth Poché; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.

A private interment of Fred's ashes will take place at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia, with close family members in attendance. A memorial service celebrating his life will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Stroke Association in Fred's memory.
