Hazel loved people especially children. She had no birth children but she was a wonderful Mother to her younger siblings and to the Caldwell children and grandchildren.
Hazel grew up in Seminole County, Georgia. She graduated in 1949 as Senior Class Valedictorian of Roosevelt High School. She worked 35 years for Southern Bell Telephone Co., retiring in 1984. She accepted Christ in her teen years and she had this tremendous thirst for studying the Bible and developing the skills that would enable her to be a more effective servant for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Even while working full time and rearing children, she was a teacher, youth worker and member of the choir at Maranatha Baptist Church from 1950-1966. She was Co-Pastor of two churches for twelve years doing Pastoral Counseling.
In 1966, she became a Licensed Missionary/International Pentecostal Assemblies. She earned a 3-year Diploma and Preliminary Teacher’s Certificate from Beula Heights College. In the late 1980’s she earned the ETTA Certificate for Understanding People, Associate in Bible Degree and a Graduate Degree in Theology from Antioch Bible College Institute and Seminary.
Hazel was employed at White Column Funeral Chapels from 1986 to 2005- greeting and ministering to families in bereavement. She received the WELLSTAR Cobb Hospital Pastoral Care “Volunteer of the Year” Award in 2001 and continued to serve there until her health became an issue. She also found time to be a Volunteer Red Cross Lady at Grady Memorial Hospital, Atlanta.
Hazel was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church for 16 years. She then served in six different Church of God churches: Hemphill/Mt. Paran, Mableton, Smyrna, Austell, Lithia Springs and Milford.
Even in her final days if someone mentioned anyone being sick, she would ask for their name and address and she would send them a card!
She had a Heart of Gold and never forgot her Life’s Objective. God Bless Sister Hazel!
