

Mr. Herbert John Edwards Jr., age 84, of Marietta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 8, 2026. He was born on July 15, 1941, in Bay Shore, NY and lived a life marked by dedication, quiet strength, and deep love for those around him.
He met and married the love of his life, Carol, in high school in East Islip, New York in May 1966.
He served as an SP4 (Specialist 4 rank) in the United States Army until November 1969, stationed at Fort Monroe, Virginia. During his military time, he played the trumpet in the US 50th Continental Army Band (CONARC).
Herb attended Cornell University and Dowling College, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Physics, magna cum laude, in May 1971, with the constant support of his wife. After becoming the father of two daughters, Herb and Carol relocated from New York to Atlanta, Georgia in August 1977, where he worked as a consultant and executive in the energy regulatory industry. Herb retired in 2013 after spending 13 years at the City of Marietta/BLW.
Baptised in the Catholic Church, Herb was a devoted family man and a loyal friend whose quiet presence brought kindness, laughter and warmth to every room. He will be remembered for the values he lived by and the example he set. His life touched many, and his memory will continue to live on through all of us who loved him.
Herb was predeceased by his loving wife of 55 years, Carol. He is survived by his daughters Karen Edwards of San Francisco, California; Susan Sparrowhawk, of Seattle, Washington; son-in-law Scott Sparrowhawk and grandson Lucas Sparrowhawk of Seattle, Washington; niece Vikki Wachino of Chevy Chase, MD; nephew Scott Wachino of Yardley, Pennsylvania.
Herb’s legacy is one of love, perseverance, and faithfulness, and he will be deeply missed by all who know him.
A celebration of Herb’s life will take place at Boxwood Social Hall in Marietta, GA on Sunday, February 15, 2026 from 2:00 to 4:00pm.
