My grandmother was a very selfless and giving person. She was always ready to make sure that everyone had what made then happy even if it was just not putting celery in my potato salad. I always remember her making sure us grandkids would not be bored at her house by "going to hunt for a play pretty" just some toy or thing to occupy and entertain us. Granny helped me when my oldest son, Jake, got chicken pox and had to stay home from daycare. I had a job that I couldn't miss a week from so she graciously and happily kept him for me. She loved us with her entire being and showed it by being there for us and giving what we needed when we needed it. I am so very thankful that I can call Imogene Isham my grandmother. I love you now and forever.

Mom (Imogene) was born Imogene Pierce and was the oldest girl in a total of 11 children born to Ernest and Sophie Pierce.  During her illness, she often talked about going home to be with her mom and dad.  Her love for her mom, dad and siblings was obvious by the way she talked about them. 
Mom married our dad Robert Isham on January 6, 1946. They were married for 68 years this year.  Mom was devoted to dad and her family.  Until she became too ill to cook, there was hardly a morning that passed that she didn't fix breakfast for dad.  Even through this terrible illness mom always knew dad and through the fog of her disease found clear moments to tell him she loved him.   I was blessed to witness the last time on the Tuesday before she went into the hospice facility.  It was a special moment and one I will cherish always.
 Imogene Isham - Mom - was many things – amazing, caring, sweet, smart ….  But her patience was legendary. Mom was the most patient person I have ever known.  There were many wonderful things Mom taught us, but her patience was her gift to her 4 children.  All of us deserved her wrath on many occasion but all we ever saw was the sweet, gentle, patient person that was our mom.
For anyone that knew Imogene, they knew she was a hard worker – it was not possible for her to sit still.  She was always busy – whether it was cooking, canning, cleaning, weeding her flower beds, working at Macy's – she was never idle.  Even when she was sitting she was always doing something productive – reading, crocheting, cross stitch, wrapping gifts, word search puzzles – her hands were never still.  Mom loved to work.  She worked most of her life:  she helped build the atomic bomb at Oak Ridge Tennessee, worked as a nurse's aide, and worked at Riches, later Macy's for approximately 44 years.  She retired twice from Macy's, the last time was at age 82.
Mom loved her family deeply.  That was evident in all the special little favors she would do for us.  I knew she loved Joe when she made fried apple pies just for him – only him.  I was instructed that I could only have a fried pie if Joe let me.  But Mom also knew I loved her chicken and dumplings and she would often make them special and let us know she was making them for us.  There were many of these examples of her love – making an extra coconut pie for Pat and Sam, cooking green beans and chicken tenders for Michael and Derek, Fig preserves for Robbie, “no crunch” potato salad for Kim and Karen, salmon patties for Jeff, coke floats for Jennifer, Brach candies for Chris, making blackberry cobblers with Dana, and a box of Little Debbie Nutty Bars for Jake and Ryan each time she saw them. 
I am very proud of my mother. She taught me a lot about balancing work and family. She was a well-respected wife, mother, coworker, friend and caring 2nd mother to Vicki – her only daughter-in-law. Even though she worked hard at her career her family and friends took priority.  She was always there whenever anyone needed her.  Whether it was someone to talk to, a meal to eat or help with a task, she never asked why and was quick to help. I remember when I was in my early 20's and had just started cooking, I was plagued with stomach ailments for a short time and several times had to go to the emergency room to get medicine to stop the nausea.  Mom was always there no matter what time of night to take me to the hospital.  I knew I could depend on her no matter what.  Looking back - I guess I should have asked her to teach me to cook!
I will miss my mother with all of my heart and will always cherish the time we spent together. Even though she is gone her memory will live on in all of our hearts forever.

Granny, Granny, Granny, 
You always could get the family together! No amount of words can say how much you will be missed.  Same as there was no end to the love you gave us all. 
Mostly...I will miss seeing how happy you would be when everyone arrived to see you.  Then again...how happy you would get when everyone was going home.
I hope you forgive me for hiding from you at Rich's all those times.  It was only me being a kid.  I remember as a kid me and you would sit on your swing and watch Grand Daddy cut the grass.  I loved those days and I think of them often.
I love you, Granny.  You will continue to be in our hearts.  You will be missed every day.
Today I will celebrate your life with our family.

My granny was one of the most amazing, caring, sweet, patient and funny women I have ever known or will ever know.  There is not a time in my life that I can remember when she wasn't there to help and care for me in any and every way she was able.  
Whether I needed a meal to eat, a place to stay, an ear to listen, a shoulder to lean on, a hand to hold or a friend to laugh with it was always her.  She never failed.  
However, she was not a push over.  If I misbehaved punishment was swift, and sometimes severe and though I may have thought it was awful at the time I appreciate the lessons she taught me that I still carry with me today.…but those bad times were few and far between because she made me feel like I was her little angel….and now it's time for her to be my guardian angel.  So I guess nothing's really changed because to me, that's exactly what she always was.

You were always there for me, giving selflessly and doing what you did best, taking care of me when I needed it. I learned a lot of valuable lessons from you. I will cherish all of my memories of you forever. I love you.

I always looked forward to going to Graany's. With her working at Rich's, there was always Brach's candy like Royal and caramel for us kids to eat. When the cousins got together the girls would play with perfume samples in the cedar chest while the boys were outside. Granny got me hooked on tuna fish and pretty much all of us loved her Green beans. I will miss her being in the kitchen whether she was cooking or canning, it's where I remember her the most. Probably the reason why I like to cook so much. She will be missed and every time I am in my kitchen cooking I will be thinking about Granny.      Love your oldest grandson Chris

Beverly, I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.  Try to remember the happy times and know that heaven has gained an angel.

We are sorry that we can't come to the memorial service on Saturday.  I have a wedding to conduct which makes it impossible for us to be there.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and pray you will know God's presence, comfort and peace during these days of sorrow.

Aunt Imajean, I thank GOD for the good Christian women like you he has blessed me with.  I will continue to try to be a witness to the children in our family and pass on the Christian legacy you and Uncle Robert have shown us thru the way you have lived your lives.  Your light will always shine on our family.  I love you.

With so many loving memories  Aunt Imogene... Of all those times spent with you growing up,  you taught me a lot, whether you knew it or not.  You even got me over my fear of dogs when I was so little.  I always loved you for that.  Thank you for the Christian light you shone so brightly to all of us in the family.  We love you and look forward to seeing you in Heaven with mom and  all our other family members..
