She was delivered into this world by her father on October 3, 1922, in Mount Victory, Kentucky. Lively and curious, she skipped 1st grade in order to join her best friend and sister, Violet, in the 2nd grade. Iva was an excellent student, graduating high school at 16. She then attended Sue Bennett College in London, KY and became a much-loved teacher.
In 1942 Iva moved with two of her sisters to Akron, Ohio, to see the world and aid in the war effort, working for several years at the Goodyear Rubber Plant. In Akron she met and married her husband Ralph.
Iva and Ralph moved to Marietta, Georgia, early in their marriage, where they raised their family. Iva loved her family, her home, her flowers and all God’s creatures. She was a swimming instructor and a competitive race walker, winning a National Senior Olympics title.
Iva was predeceased by her husband Ralph in February, 2014, and by her grandson David in 1995. They undoubtedly welcomed her home.
Iva leaves behind her son James Hylton of Marietta, GA, her daughter Janice Hylton of Millerton, NY, and her two grandchildren.
