

James J. “Jimmy” Bethune, Jr., 84, of Marietta, GA, formerly of Birmingham, AL, passed into glory on May 18, 2015. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he was preceded in death by Margaret Ann, his beloved wife of 45 years. Jimmy was born in Birmingham on June 25, 1930 and graduated from Phillips High School. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. He graduated from Birmingham-Southern College with a BA in Business in 1959 and was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He was a practicing CPA in Birmingham for over 30 years, retiring in 1992 as a founding partner of Ledbetter and Bethune. He was a charter member of both Briarwood Presbyterian Church and later Faith Presbyterian Church, where he was a member for 42 years and faithfully served for many years as Deacon and Treasurer.
Jimmy is survived by his daughter Ann Harris and son-in-law Jim, his son Tom and daughter-in-law Molly and their children Sam and Josh, all of Atlanta. He is also survived by his brother David and sister-in-law Jane, of Newport, Rhode Island, and their children Ashley and Meredith.
The family will receive friends at Ridout’s Valley Chapel in Homewood, AL on Thursday, May 21 from 5 to 7 pm. A graveside service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham at 11 am on Friday, May 22.
