

Mr. James “Jim” Bowen, 72 of Marietta died Saturday, February 25, 2012. Jim was a native of Arkansas, where he was an All-State football and basketball player for Harrison High School. He later went on to play football on a scholarship for the University of Arkansas. Jim devoted his entire life to building and running a successful business, which earned him the nickname by many friends and colleagues of “Mr. Hospitality”. Mr. Bowen was the insurance provider for the AFGE for many years and also owned his own company, Jim Bowen Insurance Inc. for over 35 years. Jim was an avid sportsman and spent many days in the woods enjoying his love of turkey hunting. He had a wonderful sense of humor and truly loved animals. Jim was preceded in death by his adopted father, Spike Cavender; his mother, Naomi Cowger and his brother, Steve Cavender. He is survived by his wife, Leslie Bowen; son, Chris Bowen of Los Angles, CA; daughter, Tracy Bowen Gonzalez and her husband, Victor Guadalupe of Reidsville, GA; daughter, Shelby Branch and her husband Cody of Baxley, GA; sisters, Pat Finkenbinder and her husband Keith and Kay Chiaro and her husband Johnny; grandchildren, Gracie Gonzalez, Brevin Branch, Mason Cowart, Bentley Branch and Bowen Branch; special pets, Big Spot, Missy and Valentine. A memorial service to honor Jim’s life will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 20012 at 2 pm at H.M. Patterson & Son, Canton Hill Chapel in Marietta with a reception immediately following the service. The family will receive friends on Tuesday one hour prior to the service.
