James Thomas Cook

James Thomas (Tom) Cook, 82, of Woodstock, GA, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 25, 2025. Born July 22, 1942, in Albany, GA, to the late S.E. and Ruth Dennard Cook, Tom grew up humbly, forging a deep bond with his mother after his father’s passing when he was 17 years old.

A faithful Christian in the Southern Baptist Church, Tom lived to glorify God. He married Margaret Elaine Dodd on June 12, 1971, at Second-Ponce de Leon Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia, cherishing 54 years together. A devoted family man, he embraced in-laws, cousins, and friends as family. He leaves behind Elaine, 79; son, James Dodd Cook, 50; daughter, Margaret (Meg) Ruth Kennedy, 47 and granddaughters, Hannah Joy Cook, 21, Lilly Grace Cook, 19, Margaret Kaitlyn Kennedy, 17, and Clara Rebekah Kennedy, 14.

Tom served as a deacon at Roswell First Baptist Church and for 20 years, was active with Elaine in Johnson Ferry Baptist Church’s Agape Senior Adult class. A UGA graduate, earning both a Bachelors and Masters degree in Accountancy, he thrived as a CPA and controller over a successful 40-year career. A tech enthusiast, Tom could often be found playing with the newest electronic gadgets. This extended to him warmly approving of a RadioShack manager, marrying his daughter in 2001. Tom also loved cats, Georgia Bulldog football, country music, cookies, boiled peanuts, model trains, and peanut butter, reflecting his joyful spirit and Georgia roots.

A service celebrating Tom’s life will be held Tuesday, July 1st, 2025 at H.M. Patterson & Son - Canton Hill Chapel in Marietta, Georgia. Visitation will be held at 11 AM with a funeral service following at noon. A short graveside service will follow at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs, Georgia. Services will be led by his son-in-law, Steve Michael Kennedy, a Southern Baptist minister. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be directed to the Johnson Ferry Baptist Church Caring Ministry. Tom’s hope rested in Romans 8:38-39 and his legacy of faith endures.
