As a child and young man, Gregg excelled in sports. A huge fan of the UGA football program, in the mid-1970s Gregg attended a sports camp held by the late Vince Dooley and Erskine Russell. This love of sports continued throughout his life. He had a passion for stock car racing. His entry in the world of stock car racing began with Mark Thompson's ARCA Racing Team. Gregg was able to travel the country participating in races from California to Florida. The height of his experience in this sport was when he joined Jerry Nadeau's NASCAR Pit Crew as the "Gas Man". Gregg was never happier than while racing. Gregg was a 1983 graduate of Campbell High School and went on to attend Georgia State University.
