
He attended Tech High; the Woodrow Wilson College of Law & the American Institute of Banking.
Ben served in the 15th Army Air Corps in Italy during WWII.
In 1949 he was admitted to the Georgia Bar and was an active member for 60 years.
He enjoyed a long career as a banker with First National Bank. During his career he was Vice President and head of the Trust Department.
In 1953 Time Magazine named Ben “Atlanta’s 100 Leaders of Tomorrow”.
Mayor Ivan Allen asked him to serve on the Atlanta Board of Aldermen (now the Atlanta City Council). During his term the Atlanta Braves came to Atlanta; I-285 and the Atlanta Zoo and Atlanta Airport that we recognize today were begun.
He served as Foreman on several well known Fulton County Grand Jury trials, including the infamous Temple Bombing.
Ben was an active member of the Johnson Ferry Baptist Church for many years. He helped in the startup of the Senior Ministry and treasured his church family.
Ben was preceded in death by his first wife Helen Hall Moore and second wife Nell Smith Moore. He is survived by daughter Howell Moore Williams ( Mike) and grandsons Taylor & Reid Williams of Atlanta; daughter Elizabeth Moore Kippels (Steve) of Greensboro, GA; grandson Loren Kippels (Amy) and great-grandsons Cameron & Colin of Roswell, GA. He is also survived by stepchildren Judy Williams (Bob) of Sunnyvale, CA; Suellen Chester of Alpharetta; Robyn Bryan (Lyla) of Hendersonville, NC, and their families.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church on Wednesday, November 9, 2011, with a reception following. Internment will be at Westview Abby, Atlanta.
