

James (Jim) F. Papp, of Marietta, Georgia, passed away on December 16, 2018. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on March 14, 1938. Jim was always an athlete. He spent his younger years speedskating on ice. Football and baseball were his sports in high school and college. He was asked to sign with the Detroit Tigers baseball team, but chose to attend Ohio University in Athens, Ohio instead.
Jim met his wife, Marti, in Cleveland after graduating college and serving in the Army. They married in Pittsburgh, Marti’s hometown. Jim started his career in the home textiles industry in Rochester, New York. Daughter Julie was born in Rochester. Working in Cleveland was next on his agenda, and son Derek was born there.
After 5 years in Ohio, Jim and the family chose a golfing community in Atlanta for their residence and activities in his new territory.
Jim and Marti travelled often and went on several cruises. Jim was an expert snow skier so Colorado was on the itinerary each year. The family also skied and joined Marti’s sister Sally and husband Norton Donner along with nephew Kevin on many ski trips over the years.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Coletta Papp. He is survived by his wife Marti, daughter Julie Papp and son Derek Papp. Also surviving are brothers Roger Papp (Faythe) and Dennis Papp (Christine). Surviving nieces are Mary Papp and Stephanie Wilkerson. Surviving nephews are Dennis Papp and Kevin Donner. Surviving cousins are Patti Brown, Diana Lorek, and Laurel Green.
