James Grady Verhey

James (Jim) Grady Verhey, age 75 of Marietta, Georgia, died January 9, 2021 after a short stay in hospice. Jim is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn and two sons, James Russell (Cari) and William Henry (Dawn) and grandchildren, Ellie, Bethany, Grady, Raina, Anna, Emma, Evangeline and Josef. He is also survived by his sister, Pat Anderson and her husband, Robert, their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Jim was born in Atlanta, Georgia and grew up in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was predeceased by his father, George and his mother, Frances. Jim was the fullback on his high school football team that won Tennessee’s state championship three years in a row. Later, he played football for Baylor University but was a lifelong fan of the Georgia Bulldogs and loved to travel to Georgia home and away football games After Baylor, Jim later moved to Atlanta where he was an entrepreneur. He spent his life in sales and marketing. Jim could sell anything. Jim loved boats, especially sailboats and kept a sailboat at Lake Lanier for a period of time.

Visitation will be 9:00 am 10:00 am on Saturday, January 16th at H.M. Patterson & Son - Canton Hill Chapel 1157 Old Canton Road, Marietta. The celebration of life will follow at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society. Following the service, you are invited to an open house at 683 Serramonte, Marietta.

Jim and I grew up together. After his Mother passed, Jim moved in with our grandmother in our apartment downstairs. Jim and I were close during that time.
We will all miss you.
