Janet Cecilia Zalocusky was born July 18, 1942, in Ponce, Puerto Rico, where her father served in the U.S Air Force. Michael Zalocusky, a Polish descendant, was married to Aurelia Vasquez, of Spanish heritage. "What a combination that was" she used to say. Growing up in Biloxi, MS, where her father was stationed at Keesler, AFB was a fun and innocent time, and that she always considered Biloxi her true home, no matter where she traveled. As a youngster she loved exploring the various piers along the beach and crabbing with her younger brother Michael, after school.
After graduating from Mississippi State College for Women (affectionately known as "The W"), she taught middle school for 1 year before being hired by Delta Airlines in which she was employed as a Flight Attendant for over 43 years.
When her first husband , George Morton, died in an aircraft accident, she was faced with bringing up an 8 year old girl as a single mom. She struggled but relied on friends, and neighbors to watch over Stephanie while she worked both domestic and international trips. Before travel became so tumultuous and overwhelming there were conveniences of flying standby as an employee, ata time when standby sars were still available, which allowed her to take this precious 8 year old on numerous trips to such places as Hawaii, Paris, Greece, London, New York, and more. Oh, how convenient that was back then.
As the years passed quickly, Janet persevered, saved money and managed to put Stephanie through college at University Of Virginia, and also Medical School, with a postgraduate degree at University of Pennsylvania School Of Medicine in Philadelphia earning her specialty in Radiology, which she practices today, living in Spokane, WA with her husband and 2 children.
After Janet retired from Delta, she thrust herself into several church activities. She was a member of St. Ann Council of Catholic Women (SACCW), the Apple Annie volunteer, served as VP of Women's Guild, maintained a booth for the Garage Sale for many years, taught 2nd and 3rd grades at St. Ann and got to be affectionately known as "Miss Janet" by her students.
Her fondness of travel increased in 1993 with someone new, when she married Raymond Jung. They met at St. Ann's Valentine Day Dance the prior year, which leads to another , untold story for a later time. They travelled to places like Egypt, China, Tibet, Paris, Vienna, Bangkok, Australia , Poland, Malaysia, Iceland, and on, and on. At last count, she visited or traveled to 54 countries with Delta. All the different sights, sounds, foods, customs, and experiences never got old, just more enticing.
Now, she is traveling on her best journey yet. HOME. Janet Jung passed away October 22, 2026.
Janet was preceded in death by her mother, Aurelia Vasquez, her father, Michael Zalocusky, and her brother, MIchael Zalocusky. She is survived by her husband Raymond Jung, her daughter, Dr. Stephanie Simonson, and grandchildren Brandon, Dean, Rachel, and her blended families of David Jung and Matthew Jung.
