It is with heavy hearts that the family of JoAnn Ellis Askea announces her passing on Thursday March 22, 2018, at the age of 75 years, in Austell Georgia. JoAnn was born on April 11, 1942 and will be lovingly remembered by her husband Paul Askea. JoAnn and Paul knew each other their entire lives, grew up directly across the street from one another, were childhood sweethearts, and were later married; they celebrated their 56th Wedding Anniversary earlier this month. A member of Riverside Church of God her entire life, JoAnn was a devoted Christian who loved God above all else. She was a dedicated wife, loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. To know JoAnn was to love JoAnn; she never met a stranger and she opened her heart and sometimes even her home to anyone who crossed her path.
In order to raise her family, JoAnn postponed her career at Sinclair Oil in 1962 when she was pregnant with her first child; after all her children were school age she reentered the workforce and eventually retired from Hanover Insurance after (18) years of service. Her hobbies were reading and crossword puzzles. She loved anything Elvis, John Wayne or Gone With the Wind. She loved Janette Oke movies, butterflies, hummingbirds and collectibles. Her favorite color was purple. JoAnn leaves behind a legacy of (3) children: P. Wesley Askea of Dallas, GA, Sharon McCollum of Austell, GA and Michele Petway of Smyrna, GA, (9) Grandchildren: Ben Askea (38), Sandra Fuller (32), Christi Askea (29), Diandra Mayo (29), Hannah Askea (18), Tyler Askea (17), Nathanial McCollum (22), Daniel McCollum (22), and Samuel McCollum (19), (6) Great Grandchildren: Joshua Schlundt (16), Rachel Schlundt (12), Donavan Story (12), Grace Story (10), Natalie Fuller (5) and John White (7-Weeks), and (4) Grandchildren she adopted by the heart: Makayla Hall (8), Syrena Hall (5), Victoria Hall (2) and J.D. Petix (2). JoAnn is also survived by her Brother Walter Ellis and her Sister Lillian Pickens. JoAnn joins in Heaven for a glorious reunion, her Daughter-In-Law Betty Askea (36), Grandson James Devon Petway (19) and Daughter Rebekah Ann Askea (At Birth). Her family will receive friends Sunday evening, March 25th, 2018, from 5:00 until 8:00 o'clock, at Georgia Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 2000 Cobb Parkway SE, Marietta, Georgia, 30060. To Celebrate her life, Mrs. Askea's family will hold Funeral Services, Monday evening, March 26th, 2018, at 6:00 o'clock, at Riverside Church of God, 3470 Florence Road, Powder Springs, Georgia, 30127.
