John Allen Kubik
March 5, 1945 – April 1, 2018
John Allen Kubik, age 73, of Marietta, Georgia passed away on the morning of April 1, 2018. He was born on March 5, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois and is the son of the late Joseph Anton Kubik & June Dorothy Kubik. John grew up in Mount Prospect, Illinois and was the 2nd son of 3 boys.
John proudly served his country as a Captain in the Army during the Vietnam War. One of his proudest moments was the day he received his wings upon graduating from flight school and becoming commissioned as a pilot and an officer. He was proud to be "Headhunter-22" and was recognized as the "Sky King" when it came to instrument flying.
Following his tour in Vietnam, John graduated with an Aeronautical degree from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. His professional life was primarily focused in the real estate industry and included a career as a property appraiser, custom home builder, and well respected building inspector. He was a proud member of the Georgia Association of Home Inspectors and was selected as a top-rated building inspector to provide his expert opinion on stories covered by ABC's "20/20" and "Inside Edition".
He enjoyed being outdoors and being active. He has summited some of the tallest mountains including Mt. Whitney, Mt. Shasta, Mt. Ranier, Kings Peak, and many others. He was a skilled craftsman and believed in the importance and meaning of a handmade gift. He was the grill master, a great dancer, and provided words of wisdom to his family and friends.
John was dearly loved and survived by his wife of 22 years, Jane H. Kubik "Elena"; daughter, Lindsay (Joe) Peters of Watkinsville, GA; stepdaughters, Natalie (Chris) Gite of Houston, TX, Valerie Nunez of Marietta, GA; stepson, Karlos Cuevas of Marietta, GA. He has seven grandchildren: Wyatt, Libby, Miles, Olivia, Nina, Julian, & Sofia. He is also survived by his two brothers, Joel (Jackie) Kubik of San Antonio, TX and James (Kathy) Kubik of Highlands Ranch, CO.
A Military Service/Burial will be held at 11:30am on Monday, April 9, 2018 at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA. In Lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that you consider a donation in John's name to the Vietnam Veterans of America.
