Born to Truman and Florence, he was raised on a farm in Spring Hill, Kansas. He was the youngest of five and the only boy.
At age six, determined to fly, he jumped from the hayloft with an umbrella, luckily breaking only one arm.
John proudly served in the US Army during the Korean War as a Chief Communications Operator. He was honored to serve his country, a true patriot.
After moving to Southern California, John worked in the aerospace industry. The majority of his professional career was spent as a purchasing manager for Union Carbide.
John, affectionately known as “the Yardman”, had a green thumb, loved gardening and his bird sanctuary. He and Joan’s favorite pastime was vacationing with the kids at many national parks. As a retiree, he frequented the YMCA and enjoyed post workout coffee and donuts with friends. He loved to watch college football, Indiana Hoosiers basketball and his Atlanta Braves.
John is preceded in death by his daughter Jani, parents Truman and Florence, sisters Vernice, Evelyn, Margaret and Dorothy.
He is survived by his wife Joan, daughters Laurie (Randy), Sandy (Clark), grandson John (Sarah), great granddaughter Jackie, grandson Jake (Kelsey), James and Josie.

A Celebration of Life reception will follow at Indian Hills Country Club, Marietta, Georgia.
