

Herman and Phyllis "Waite" Rathkamp of Newport, R.I.
He passed away on March 20th, 2026. Jack leaves two brothers, David in Texas and Robert "Bob" in Michigan.
Jack proudly volunteered for military service in the US Army in 1969. He served as a staff officer for the Eighth Army during Korea and Vietnam. Upon completion of his tour of duty, he worked for the Army for twenty-five years as Education Officer at Fort McPherson in Georgia. Jack worked tirelessly helping soldiers and their families attain their educational goals.
Jack was a people person and had an infectious laugh. Everyone he met was already a friend. Jack often entertained his friends with his guitar playing and was even in a band that made a record in his younger days. Jack lived in Atlanta but also spent the winter months in Cudjoe Key, Florida. While in Florida, Jack loved the ocean and spent many hours fishing and scuba diving and spending many hours with his Uncle Skip. Jack and his uncle Skip had a bond that will carry on through eternity.
He had many loving friends; Bob and Donna Duston and George "Bud" Rogers for years before and after his medical issues. Jack lived his last days in his beloved Atlanta.
Burial will take place in Rhode Island.
