John Harrington Tanous, age 69 of Marietta, GA passed away on Friday, January 27, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Miami Beach, FL on June 2, 1953 to Jean Wilson and John H. Tanous MD.
John attended Mercersburg Academy in Pennsylvania before enrolling and graduating from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill with a degree in Philosophy. His passion compelled him to pursue a career in music, playing in various bands around North Carolina, moving to Atlanta, GA in the late seventies. In the summer of ’79, John met the love of his life, Pam Williamson.
In time, John made the decision to return to college to further his education, graduating from the University of Florida with a MBA in Finance. He began his new career path as a financial analyst at Curtis 1000. John and Pam married in 1990 and welcomed their son Benjamin, the light of John’s life, in 1997.
John went on to a profession that evolved into a specialization in System Auditing and Finance with firms including Andersen Consulting, KPMG and others. In 2019, John retired from SWM International.
John’s profession afforded him opportunities for travel to cities throughout the US, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. John also enjoyed a passion for wine, highlighted by winning the grand prize for a trip to Bordeaux, France. John’s pride and joy was his son, Ben. He loved being a part of everything Ben was involved in; from little league baseball, being a “band dad” at Walton HS and Auburn University, and being his life mentor.
A constant passion in John’s life was music. Beginning in his teenage years, through his retirement years in Marietta, playing music fed his soul. A true joy was playing and performing live with lifelong friends in several bands.
John is preceded in death by his parents, John and Jean Tanous; grandparents, Joseph and Nora Tanous, Albert and Mae Wilson; and his many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He is survived by his wife, Pam; son, Benjamin; sister, Jeanne (Paul); brother, James; mother-in-law, Judy; sisters-in-law, Roxanne and Susan; nephews, James, Blake, Logan, Carter, Noah, and Dalton; nieces, Brooke and Grace (Chris); and many cousins.
