Larry Armstrong, 76, of Marietta GA., died on Friday, February 14, 2025. He grew up in Charlotte, N.C., where at East Mecklenburg High School he met his future wife, Beth. Beth passed a few years ago, unexpectantly. Larry went to be with his lifelong Valentine on Valentine’s Day. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Sam Armstrong. Larry is survived by his sons, Scott, his wife Jennifer, and children Abby and James; and Matt, and his wife Eve, and children Jake and Charlotte, all of Marietta. He is also survived by his brother, Sam Armstrong and wife Sherry, and his beloved nieces Lori and Andrea. Along with many cousins.
While his journalism degree from The University of North Carolina wasnt used as a career, Larry could always be ready with a beautifully written statement, or a well-crafted joke that was always a hit. Early in his life, Larry sold women’s apparel to shops all across the South. Then he felt called to start his own Edward Jones Investments office and became a successful Financial Advisor in his mid 40s. His courage to pivot careers late in life is a testament to his character and devotion to following his heart. Larry was a faithful Christian whose gift was leadership and spiritual guidance. He led the thriving Fellowship Class at Mount Bethel Church for decades.
Larry loved relaxing in his "Birdroom" and took great pride in caring for the thousands of birds that came to visit him throughout the week. Especially his beloved Bluebirds. Larry and Beth led over 40 mission teams to the "hollers" of West Virginia where they spread the love of God and blessed that community by being the hands and feet of Christ.
Larry was a veteran traveler whose feet touched six of the seven continents, and over the years, learned to pack everything he needed into a small suitcase that would fit overhead on any plane. He would make it his and Beth’s mission to never check a bag!
Larry’s competitive spirit morphed through his years but ultimately culminated in his passion for Pickleball. He played multiple times a week over the course of a decade. His health issues ultimately put an end to his play, and he was crushed. He loved the challenge of mastering the game and appreciated all those that helped him become a stronger player, year after year.
Another one of Larry’s passions was music. He was an avid singer and was an integral part of the Mt. Bethel Church Choir for decades. He also enjoyed an exciting career with the Michael O’neal Singers. He even made into the coveted small group with MOS known as Kaleidoscope. He was so proud to be a part of MOS and it broke his heart when he had to stop singing due to his health.
Larry had many close friendships in his lifetime, and he loved getting together for Power Lunches to discuss the important happenings of the week. Over his lifetime, Larry developed an abiding faith in God. He attended countless Bible studies, attended meetings at church, and volunteered for several programs. It is comforting to his family and friends to know--with certainty--that he is in our Lord's loving arms and preparing for the day he will see all of us again! But it should bring us peace to know that Larry and Beth are reunited in Heaven and are healthy and whole together for eternity.
Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held March 3rd , 11:00 am, Mt. Bethel Church, Marietta, GA.
