Marietta, passed away Tuesday,
Nov. 1, 2011. She is survived by
her spouse of 33 years, Thomas
Algarin, and many, many friends
and family members who loved her
very much.
Laverne and Thomas met in New York City in 1978,
and they moved to Atlanta, GA in 1981. They were
together for over 30 years, and were twice married
in Atlanta—once in a civil ceremony and once in a
Catholic ceremony at Sacred Heart Church.
Laverne was a wonderful wife, homemaker, companion,
and friend to Thomas. She enjoyed oil painting, religious studies and philosophy, dancing, music, travel, adventure, swimming, and theatre arts. Her love of life and family were
her defining character. She was a happy, joyous, easy-going and giving spirit, and she was kind to everyone she met.
Laverne was born in New York City, NY,
October 27, 1955, to Louie C. Allen and
Elizabeth Allen. She was one of six siblings,
Robert “Bobby” Allen, Johnnie Allen, Louie
Allen (deceased), Geneva Allen, and Tammy Allen.
Her late father Louie was from Milledgeville, GA
and her mother Elizabeth is from Rock Hill, SC.
Laverne’s uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews
from the Butts-Allen family in Milledgeville, and her
birthplace New York, will miss her dearly.
The family will receive friends Friday, November
4, 2011 from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial is planned for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 5th, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 4465 Northside Drive, NW, Atlanta, GA. Interment will follow at Kennesaw Memorial Park
Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.
