Lazekiel (Zeke) Emmanuel Reese was born to Larry and Lawanda Reese; the proud parents of five children. Zeke was the third child and clearly, the biggest. He was affectionately known as Big Zeke (or Big Hurt if you were unfortunate enough to experience that side of him). There have been countless testimonies of people that were able to experience the wrath and redemption of Big Hurt on any given day.
He was born Monday, August 15, 1977 in a little country town of Ocilla, GA. The 2010 Census shows the population was a mere 3,414, but don’t fret.
He actually lived in Fitzgerald, GA, which shows a whopping 9,053 for that same year – that’s big city living. He was so proud of those Fitzgerald Purple Hurricanes. Zeke had small, humble beginnings. But God! God took a little country boy and allowed him to travel the world. God allowed him to see some of the greatest places ever built and meet some of the biggest names that God allows to exist. Zeke knew that his blessings came from the Lord.
Zeke was born and raised in a household of faith and fear of the Lord. He was taught how to lean and depend on Jesus. Zeke loved the Lord and wasn’t afraid to tell you. It didn’t matter who he was around. Say or do the wrong thing and you might end up in a quick deliverance or revival service! Zeke loved to serve. He grew up serving in church and loved to do so. He even served as the driver and armor bearer to late Apostle Raymond Moss. He kept dreaming that he was with his late Apostle again; we can see that his wish has been granted. Zeke’s servant mindset led him to the line of work that he grew to love— Security.
In his latter years, Zeke served as Head of Security for Rae Sremmurd. He took it so seriously that you would be scared to even look their way with the wrong thought. It’s like he could sense it. One ill-advised move and your life was on the line. Zeke recognized that God protected him so he could protect others. He recognized that his job was not just a job; it was an assignment. Mike Will and EarDrummers Entertainment embraced Zeke as a brother; and Zeke protected them like one. He was grateful to do so. In 1993, Zeke’s only brother, Larry, passed away. However, through Zeke’s many endeavors over the years, God gave him back more brothers than he could ever imagine.
Larry Eugene Reese was the brother that beat Zeke into the Kingdom. He’s been gone 25 years now, so we know he’s pretty acclimated with everything there. We know he’s ready to show Zeke the ropes and make sure he abides by the law of the land. He probably greeted Zeke at the Gate with a warm embrace—no, probably a tackle and a little wrestle. That was their thing, our thing... we loved wrestling. Oh, nothing like a good rumble that started in the house but ended up outside in the dirt. We didn’t mind the dirt; it was country living, but it was our living, the kind of living that creates inseparable bonds - the kind of bond that Zeke could no longer stay away from. He wanted to see his brother again. He even dreamed that he was with him and Janeen (Veronica Pringle) again too. So, once again, his desire was granted but most importantly, his assignment was done.
Well, Larry and Zeke, we got it from here. Three sisters empowered by a great big God to run on and see what the end will be. We know your heart’s desire for Mama and Daddy; we got it. Laresa (Angel) along with her children, Joy, Jonathan, and Jacinda Johnson will cover their back. Since Angel is the oldest, she’s the backbone and wherever she leads, her children will follow. Carlos, Ladebra (Debbie), and Kiersten Milton got the right side. We heard you gave a good right hand so we’ll represent you well as Junior Hercules. Martell Sr., Lawonder (Weeny), Ja’Liaya, Martell Jr., and Myles Jones will cover the left side. Since she’s the baby, she’s always been close to their heart so we know they’ll protect their hearts with everything within them. God’s got the front; he’s directing us all. We’re also surrounded by your Godparents (Jacob and Elaine Pust), our Grannies, Uncles, Aunts, Cousins, Friends, and newly found Brothers, so we’re really good.
Zeke, the only problem we can detect is that on Mother’s Day last year, you called out like four other mothers outside of your own: Elaine Pust, Lynne Work, First Lady Shawn Moss, and Mary Knapp Papinchak but then said, “and many more.” We just need you to speak to Jesus on our behalf and let him know that we need a little extra funding to continue what you started now that you are gone!
We love you, Zeke. You’re Forever in our hearts.
