
Lloyd Thomas Richardson Sr was born on May 14, 1926 and raised in the loving care of Joseph and Pennie Richardson. He confessed hope at a young age and joined a local church in Memphis, TN. Some years after moving to Marietta, GA he met Pastor Benjamin Lockhart and attended Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist. He fell in love with the pastor and the congregation, and joined the church in February 2008.
Lloyd attended public school in Memphis, TN through the eleventh grade. He then moved to Chicago, IL and completed high school. Then he joined the U.S. Navy and served in World War II. He received an honorable discharge in 1948.
Returning to Chicago, he worked in auto plants while attending the University of Illinois and law school. He later joined the staff of the United Automobile, Aerospace, and Agricultural Implementation Workers of American (UAW). There he served as an International Representative and traveled extensively worldwide.
In 1960 Lloyd transferred to North Carolina. There he was actively involved in the civil rights movement and politics, and became a member of the NAACP and Elks Pisga Lodge No 266.
In 1964 Lloyd married Mary Chambers and they were blessed with two children, Lloyd Jr and Deidre.
Lloyd was transferred by the UAW to Atlanta, GA in 1972 where he continued his civil rights and community activism, retiring from the UAW in 1981 and remaining in the Atlanta area. During his retirement, Lloyd was actively involved in raising his oldest grandson, DeJon, and served as a little league coach in football and baseball.
A loving husband and father, Lloyd was also a true friend to many and he never met a stranger. He will long be remembered by those whose lives he touched.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings: Alberta Moore (Chicago), John Moore (Detroit), and Clarence Moore (Indiana). He is survived by his wife, Mary, son, Lloyd Jr, and daughter, Deidre; four grandchildren (DeJon, Aliyah, Lloyd III and Nathaniel); three god-children (Duane Montgomery, Melanie Brown-Ellis, and Rayla Williamson); and two siblings (Martha Richardson and Joseph Richardson).
