

Early in life, she was raised in Robstown, Texas, where she attended Robstown High School and played the clarinet in the school band. She would later attend St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Galveston, Texas where she earned a nursing degree. While in Galveston, she met the love of her life, Jose Rolando Sarabia of Kingsville, Texas. On December 28, 1966 they married and lived the following fifty-seven years together before her passing.
Gloria began her career as a Registered Nurse at the University of Texas-Galveston in the pediatric burn unit. In 1972, she and Rolando moved their young family to Marietta, Georgia, where they would eventually establish lifelong roots.
Gloria committed the remaining of her nursing career to Kennestone Hospital located in Marietta, Georgia. She proudly worked as a Pulmonary nurse. Later on, she became the head nurse in charge and ran her own unit. Gloria’s compassionate care impacted many lives in the surrounding community and beyond. Her commitment and the reputation she established amongst her fellow health care professionals did not go unnoticed. In 1986, she was recognized as the employee of the year at Kennestone Hospital. Gloria’s dedication to her patients extended to her fellow nurses and staff.
Gloria spiritually touched so many lives. Her and her family were founding members of Holy Family Catholic Church in Marietta, Georgia, where she held a close relationship with God. She remained devoted to her family and close friends in Marietta, Georgia and in South Texas throughout her life. She will be greatly missed but we are confident that her faith has guided her to heaven and her spirit surrounds us and will continue to live in us.
Gloria is preceded in death by her father, Antonio Vargas and mother, Luisa Vargas.
She is survived by her husband, Rolando; children, Xavier, Leticia, Iris and Jaime; siblings, Martha, Tony and Robert; and twelve grandchildren whom she loved deeply.
A Memorial Mass to honor Mrs. Maria Gloria Sarabia will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 11:00am, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Marietta, Georgia. Confession will be available one hour prior to the service. Friends are cordially invited for fellowship on Friday, August 23, 2024 between 5:00pm and 7:00pm at HM Patterson Canton Hill, Marietta, Georgia.
As a founding member of the church, it was her desire to have any donations be made to the Holy Family Catholic Church.
