Marietta Mae Spangler, age 69, of Roswell, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2024. A South Dakota native, she was born to the late Jacob Volk and Frances Mitzel Volk on October 20, 1954. Affectionately known as Mary, she had a tremendous passion for life, and enjoyed spending time with her loving husband, William "Bill" Spangler, friends and family.
Mary most enjoyed hiking, biking and kayaking with Bill and their companion Spyder, who loved Mary everyday. She also enjoyed playing tennis and was an avid skier. She relaxed with books, jigsaw puzzles, word games, and embroidery projects, which she often gave as gifts to friends.
Mary graduated with honors from the University of Nebraska with straight A’s. Her intellect, common sense and work ethic allowed for a successful 22 year career in Bank Supervision before retiring in 2012.
Throughout the challenges of her diagnosis, Mary showed grace, remained optimistic, and lived a full life.
Mary is survived by her beloved husband Bill, siblings Jim (Leanne) Volk of EL Paso, TX, Sharon (Norbert) Fuhrmann of Aberdeen, Kenneth (Gwen) Volk of Marshall, TX, Mark (Mary Ann) Volk of Ipswich, and Kathy (Tom) Larson of Aberdeen and many friends. Her beloved brother Jerry preceded her in death.
Should family and friends desire in her memory, they may join Mary in donating to her chosen charities: Tunnels to Towers, Staten Island, New York; Wounded Warrior Family Support, Omaha Nebraska; or the charity of your choice.
