Mary Monica Maher was born May 15,1952 in Brooklyn, New York, but grew up in north Westchester county and graduated from John F Kennedy High School. She went to college at the University of Hartford where she met her husband, Ed.
Shortly after graduating from college and marrying, the couple moved to Atlanta where they have always loved living. Monica became a nurse because her sister died at the early age of 23. She was forever influenced by the level of bedside care her sister received in her final hours. It could not have been a better decision. Monica was an Emory Crawford Long nurse for 37 years before retiring in 2016.
The last 20 were in infection control. Her life was dedicated to her career and her husband of 47 years. They were inseparable. It was a mutual decision to forgo both children and pets, although they loved both, but preferred books. Their feeling was they had all they needed in each other. It was a commitment that never wavered.
The last year of her life was filled with health issues that eventually overtook her on November 27, 2021. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, December 4th at 2PM at the Patterson Funeral Home Chapel on Old Canton Road in Marietta. In lieu of flowers the couple asks that you consider a donation to Reading is Fundamental by visiting https://www.rif.org.
