Nerrell Long Ridley died peacefully in her sleep on August 1, 2021, at The Blake Assisted Living Facility. She will be buried in Crest Lawn Memorial Park, 2000 Marietta Blvd, Atlanta, Georgia, 30318, at 1:00pm, on Friday, August 6, 2021. A family gathering in her honor will be held at a future date.
Nerrell was born on June 21, 1930, in Atlanta, Georgia, to Terrell and Nell Long and loved her stepfather, Eugene Hart. She grew up in Atlanta, and married James Russell Ridley on August 29, 1948. They lived in Atlanta until 1961 and had four children, James Russell Ridley, Jr.; Harriet Hart Ridley, who died at age three; Jean Runelle Ridley and Robyn Cynthia Ridley. The family moved to Hartford, Connecticut in 1961, and moved to Jackson, Mississippi in 1965 and to Edina, Minnesota in 1969, where her husband worked for Integon Insurance Company. They moved to Winston-Salem, North Carolina in 1976, and after her husband’s retirement, they settled in Jackson, Mississippi in 1995.
Her beloved husband, Jim, died in 2004. She enjoyed playing golf and bridge and took great pleasure and pride in her seven grandchildren. Nerrell was a long time member of St. Phillips Episcopal Church, where she was one of the four original members.
Nerrell was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 56 years, James Russell Ridley; and her daughter, Harriet Hart Ridley at age 3. She is survived by her children, James Russell (Rusty) Ridley, Jr. (Jan); Jean Runelle Ridley Hines (Scott); and Robyn Cynthia Ridley; her grandchildren, Logan Timothy Ridley (Stephanie); Cambridge Ridley Lynch (Mike); Lindsay Hines Dehmer (Dodds); Breck Ridley Hines (Lyn); Eric Ridley Johnson; Robert James Johnson; Carrie Ridley Johnson (Brad); and twelve great-grandchildren.
