He was born in Madison, WI to Doris and Jim Cash, September 24, 1935. Peter graduated from Central High School in Madison, WI in 1953, enjoying amateur ice hockey and gymnastics. After attending the University of Wisconsin-Madison for two years, he began a long and successful career at AT&T in February 1956. He married his first wife, Judy Reese, in October of 1957. He raised his family by building their very first home in the outskirts of Madison, WI. Subsequently, with promotions and transfers within AT&T, the family relocated to Milwaukee, East Hanover, Cleveland and finally Atlanta. Pete retired in 1989 from AT&T, with nearly 34 years of loyal and dedicated service. He held escalating management positions in the Network Circuit/Switch Transmission organization, Worldwide Network Support organization at 32 Avenue of the Americas New York City, and Manager of Human Factors/Quality Assurance group over these 34 years.
In March of 1987, Pete married his second wife, Nancy Wood. Pete was the quintessential “Mr. Fix It” and could repair nearly anything. After retiring, he built his own log cabin home on Lake Hartwell, South Carolina. Always an avid Green Bay Packer Fan, he would delight in stories of working “the field” during the Packer Glory Years 1959 to 1967. People were immediately drawn to him, with his ability to talk to anyone, sense of humor, story-telling and jokes. He loved the great outdoors.
Pete’s greatest loves in his life were his family, ancestry folklore, friends and the joy and affection he shared for his dogs. Rhubarb Pie came in a distant third.
Peter is survived by his wife of nearly 25 years, Nancy; his three children, Jacquie (Michael), Cindy, and Jim (Darlene), his five grandchildren, Nate and Olivia Ott, Madison, Morgan and James Cash, in addition to his stepchildren, Tori Meskell and Mark Wood and step grandchildren; as well as his dear Aunt Gloria and cousins.
Peter was a 32nd degree Mason and member of Lodge No. 5, in Madison, WI, as well as serving in the Navy ROTC and a member of the American Legion. He valued his Scottish heritage.
