
In Memory of Raymond Donald Fitzgerald June 19, 1929 – December 26, 2019. Raymond Donald Fitzgerald, of Marietta, Georgia and formerly of Syosset, NY, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2019. He was born in Brooklyn, New York on June 19, 1929. Ray graduated from Fort Hamilton High School in Brooklyn, NY and attended college at Brooklyn College. He joined the Air National Guard in 1948 and in 1951 was called to active duty reporting to March Air Force base in California. His unit was scheduled to be deployed to Japan; however, the Korean War ended and Ray returned to Brooklyn. Shortly thereafter, he met and married the love of his life, Margaret Joan Kearney on September 11, 1954. They were married for 63 years until her passing in November 2017. Ray’s working career was in sales, mainly focused on paper products and engraving in which he was quite successful. Ray enjoyed traveling, loved fishing with his brothers and sons, was a WWII aficionado (due to his six brothers deployment around the world), loved to dance, and most of all he loved his family. He is survived by his three children, Raymond G. Fitzgerald and wife Mary of West Roxbury, MA; Kevin Fitzgerald and wife Donna of Trumbull, CT; and Susan Fitzgerald Ward and her husband Preston of Marietta, GA. His survivors also include his seven grandchildren and one great grandchild: Kathryn and John Fitzgerald; Meghan Sheldon and her husband Colin; Brian Fitzgerald and his wife Stephanie and his great-grandson Cameron; Kristen Fitzgerald and Lauren and Kaitlin Ward. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Ray was also predeceased by his six brothers and two sisters.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Ray’s memory to the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Atlanta, www.bgcma.org/donate. A prayer service in Marietta will be held on Saturday, January 11th at 10 AM at Parc at Piedmont, 999 Hood Road Marietta, GA 30068.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Edward the Confessor Church at 205 Jackson Avenue, Syosset, NY 11791 on January 18, 2020 at 9:45 AM. Burial will be held afterwards at St. Charles Cemetery at 2015 Wellwood Avenue, Farmingdale, NY 11735 for friends and family members in the New York area.
