

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rebecca “Beckie” Bowie Hess, who departed this life on March 17, 2026, in Marietta, Georgia. Born on March 28, 1950, in Anniston, Alabama, Beckie lived a vibrant and meaningful 75 years filled with love, creativity, and connection.
Beckie is preceded in death by her parents, Robert G. Bowie, Jr. and Mary Jo Whelchel. She is survived by her loving sisters, Mary Bowie Hicks, Beverly Bowie Bishop; Marian L. Phillips; her chosen daughter, Stephanie Piper Mathews and her cherished god-granddaughter, Emma Grace Mathews. She will also be fondly remembered by dear friends, Bill Ellis, Phillip Hull and Kurt Harvell and extended family members and a wide circle of lifelong friends.
Beckie’s radiant smile, infectious laughter, and genuine love for life brought joy to all who knew her. She had a creative spirit and an artistic soul, expressing herself through making beautiful jewelry and nurturing her love for music. Beckie also found great peace and happiness working in her yard, where she could connect with nature and create beauty in her surroundings.
A licensed optician by profession, Beckie dedicated many years of her career to helping others before enjoying a well-earned retirement.
She will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched, but her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
