Richard Dennis Cox went to Heaven on October 29, 2021 at the age of 81. Richard was born on March 5, 1940 to Emmett and Lenna Cox of Cartersville, Georgia. He grew up in Smyrna and graduated from Campbell High School in 1959. He completed basic training at Fort Jackson in South Carolina. He retired from the US Postal Service in 1992 after a career as a mail carrier. Richard and Beverly were married on June 30, 1961. They had two sons, Glen (wife Wendy) and Rick (wife Joi) and 4 grandsons: Timothy, Nicholas, Tyler and Jonathan. Richard and Beverly were longtime members of Smyrna First Baptist Church. Richard was preceded in death by his sister, Sandra Biddy of Cartersville, and was an uncle to nieces and nephews.
In knowing Richard, there are four things he’d want everyone to know about him.
1. He loves Jesus.
2. He loves Israel.
3. He loves his country.
4. He loves his family.
He loved reading his Bible and prayed the sweetest blessings. He was thankful for all the ways God blessed him. He’d often have a new Bible verse that he’d find and when you’d visit, he’d want to show it to you. He was so proud to love Jesus because he saw how good Jesus was to him. He loved watching church programs on tv and enjoyed watching westerns. He could talk all day about Gunsmoke, Bonanza, Cheyenne, & The Waltons. He enjoyed the old ways of doing things. He loved to talk about guns, the Wild, Wild West, and how much he loved his country. He respected the flag and loved the freedoms we have.
He liked to talk about the trip he and Beverly took to Israel. He would see pictures of Israel on television and would tell the stories of when they were there with the Zola Levitt tour group. They enjoyed their travels and made so many memories with the travel club at Smyrna First Baptist Church.
He loved when his neighbor, Keon & his family, would stop by for a visit. He always referred to Keon as his “good buddy.” He loved sharing a Dove ice cream bar, peanut butter cups or even an oatmeal pie with anyone who came by. He’d always hug you when you were leaving and say “it was good to see you,” “God Bless You,” and “love you buddy.”
We know today he is running around heaven without a cane, without any pain in his knee, and he doesn’t have to worry about his size 15 feet getting in the way. He is happy and healthy and we know he is loving being with Jesus and with Beverly.
If he could have one message shared today, it would be to know Jesus. When we looked through his Bible, he had verses marked that talk about the love of Jesus and the way to Heaven. He loved John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten son, for whosoever believes in Him, should not perish but have everlasting life.” He loved the Bible and would want everyone to read the gospel of John and know Jesus the same way he did. Dennis is now enjoying everlasting life and we look forward to seeing him again in Heaven.
The family will receive friends Friday, November 5th, 2021, from 10:00 o'clock to the Graveside Service hour, at Georgia Memorial Park Funeral Home, 2000 Cobb PArkway SE, Marietta, Georgia, 30060 . A graveside service will immediately follow at 11:00 AM, on the grounds of Georgia Memorial Park.
