

Richard (Dick) Reed went to his eternal home November 9, 2025. Born on November 27, 1940 in Greensburg, Indiana to Fleming Reynolds and Martha Elizabeth (Betty) Reed; Dick grew up in the Indianapolis, IN area.
He graduated from Ben Davis High School in 1958. While in high school, he was an active member of Boy Scout Troop 89, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout in 1958 and later serving as a Scout leader for several years.
In 1960, he married Verona Mae Shoemaker. Together, they faced life’s challenges and took advantage of the opportunities presented to them to create a wonderful life for their family of six until her death in 2021.
Dick graduated from Indiana Central College in 1962, with a Bachelor’s Degree in History and worked for Indiana Bell. In 1970, he began his career with the Atlantic Envelope Company (AECO) as a Salesman. In 1977, the family moved to Marietta, GA. During his 40-year career with AECO, Dick was promoted and worked in many of the company’s locations including, Louisville, KY; Miami, FL; Atlanta, GA; and Baltimore, MD. After leaving AECO, Dick returned to Sales, opening his own business, Mill & Converter Resources, as a manufacturer’s representative in the paper industry, until he retired in 2019.
Dick loved the outdoors. Growing up, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and hiking. Later, he enjoyed watching and feeding the birds in his backyard in Marietta, GA. He shared his love of fishing and the outdoors with his family through many camping and fishing trips in the North Georgia mountains at Lake Conasauga & throughout Florida, from the Keys, to the Everglades and along the Gulf Coast. And when he became “Pop Pop,” he shared his love of fishing with his grandchildren as well.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Verona Shoemaker Reed; his parents, Fleming Reed and Betty Reed; his brother, Frank Reed. He is survived by his children, Doug (Dawn) Reed of Canton, GA; Michele McBride of Saltillo, MS; Jeff Reed of Roswell, GA; and Wendy (Chris) Segal of Powder Springs, GA; 10 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, his sister, Judy Huber of Greenwood, IN, and sister-in-law Bert Reed of Cannonsburg, PA.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025 at the Chapel at Georgia Memorial Park in Marietta, GA at 11:00 am. Visitation will be prior to the service, from 10 am to 11 am. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be sent to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Mr. Reed will be privately interred at Georgia Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 2000 Cobb Parkway SE, in Marietta, GA, 30060.
