Simon Charles Wilson was born in the early morning of Friday, August 12th, 2022 to parents Alexandra and Mark Allen Wilson at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, GA. His twin brother, Oscar Edwin Wilson, arrived moments later. Their sister, Nora Peach Wilson, eagerly awaited her brothers' arrival as did their loving grandparents -- Susan Hill of Decatur, GA (maternal), Allan Hill of Savannah, GA (maternal), and Margery and Jim Wilson of Johnson City, TN (paternal) -- in addition to his many aunts, uncles, cousins, and scores of friends and loved ones.
Before he was born, Simon was diagnosed with Down Syndrome and a congenital heart defect. His medical care was managed by an excellent team at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, and he underwent a surgical repair of his heart on February 23rd.
His Great-aunt Cheryl Peach from Blyth, Ontario stayed for a time and helped care for Simon and the family, and Simon was blessed with his grandparents' tireless devotion consisting of several lengthy visits before, during, and after his surgery. He received a continuous outpouring of love and encouragement from friends and family throughout his many hospital stays.
After encountering health issues related to his recovery, Simon passed away on the evening of Tuesday, April 4th at Scottish Rite Hospital in Atlanta, GA where the EMS team, doctors, and nurses did all they could to keep Simon's heart beating but could not maintain a natural life. His mother and father were at the hospital to hold Simon one last time and allow him to rest in peace. His Papa, Allan Hill, was also present to say goodbye and help support his mother and father in their immediate grief. Family and friends descended soon after and provided great comfort.
Despite many health challenges, Simon demonstrated remarkable courage throughout his life. In the midst of surgery and recovery, sickness and healing, Simon brought joy to all he encountered, and his inner strength revealed itself through his vibrant gaze and beaming smile. No face was a stranger to him - for he felt love and warmth for all who crossed his path. His heart was open, and he accepted everyone.
Simon is survived by his sister, his twin brother, parents, grandparents, Uncle Peter Wilson of Mobile, Alabama; Uncle Matthew and Aunt Katelyn Wilson, cousins Walter, Maxine, and Clara Wilson of St. Louis, Missouri; Uncle Nathan and Aunt Anna Wilson, cousins Philip and Ben Wilson of Montgomery, Alabama; as well as many great-aunts, great-uncles, second cousins, and extended family spread across the United States and Canada.
Simon is deeply loved by his mother and father, and they remain devoted to his life and memory. Arrangements are being made for a memorial service Saturday, April 15th at 3pm at The Episcopal Church of St. Peter and St. Paul Episcopal (1795 Johnson Ferry Rd, Marietta, GA 30062) which is close to his family's home. In lieu of flowers, thoughts and prayers may be offered to his family or donations can be made in Simon's name to:
The Special Olympics, Gigi's Playhouse, CHOA Kids at Heart program or a preferred charity.
Simon's parents would like to thank the countless thoughts, prayers, and visitations from our family at the Chick-fil-A Support Center who have wrapped us and our children in warmth and kindness; Mark Allen's colleagues at Average Joe and Savannah College of Art and Design who have continued to reach out and share their heartfelt condolences; the dedicated physicians, nurses, and staff at both PAMPA Pediatrics and CHOA Eggleston's Cardio Thoracic, CICU, and CACU units; our many friends in Atlanta, Los Angeles, New York, and all corners of the world who have sent us their thoughtful words of encouragement; and our beloved family whose endless support is the foundation to the purest love for our children.
Simon's heart is filled with boundless love, and it continues to radiate to all who are in need of warmth and comfort. To look into his eyes is to see the goodness within ourselves and the endless potential to share warmth with others without prejudice or restraint, even as we encounter our own struggles in life. His time with us provides a model of kindness, faith, and strength, and his spirit symbolizes light in times of darkness, hope against despair, and grace in the face of adversity.
May his glowing smile warm your soul on the coldest days and his heart beat with yours when you need it most.
