Obituary of Steven Edward Barron
Steven E. Barron CEC, ACE, AAC, age 68, of Greater Atlanta, passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and daughters on Mar. 7, 2023. He was born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on Dec. 28, 1954 to Joseph and Gertrude (née Sheridan) Barron. Chef Barron was a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) and worked in the restaurant and hospitality industry for over 30 years. Since 1980, he was an active member with the American Culinary Federation (ACF) and Certified Executive Chef (CEC) through the ACF Educational Foundation. Chef Barron retired as an executive chef in 2013, after a fulfilling culinary career, specializing in hotels, resorts, restaurants, private clubs and sport venues. He was a valued thought leader in multiple professional associations, including the Verband der Köche et Deutschland, Chaîne des Rôtissuers, American Culinary Federation, Research Chefs Association and the Slow Food movement. Chef Barron was inducted into the American Academy of Chefs (ACF) in 1993. At the time of Chef Barron’s induction, less than 300 individuals had been accepted into the honor society since 1929. Chef Barron won numerous culinary awards, medals, recognitions, accolades and diplomas in the U.S. and internationally. His culinary experience included international culinary competitions throughout his dynamic career, representing the culinary craft of the United States. He was a member of Les Chaîne des Rôtissuers Culinary Olympic team from 1987 to 1988 and from 1991 to 1992, the National Restaurant Association (NRA) and ACF U.S. Culinary Team from 1989 to 1990, and the Club Managers of America Culinary Education Team. Chef Barron was also a Nationally Certified Culinary Competition Judge. Chef Barron was involved with the ACF Educational Institute of Apprenticeship/Chef training and was a Certified Practical Examination Judge (ACE) and WORLDCHEFS Certified Judge, validating peer abilities and proficiencies through certification. In retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, and took up beekeeping and master gardening. Barron was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council No: 9923. Barron is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Christine; daughters, Teresa Henstridge (husband Mark), and Caitlyn; sister Marie King; and four grandchildren. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, March 20 at 11 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 1618 Ben King Road, Kennesaw, GA 30144.
