

Stewart Edwin Dyer, 85, resident of Marietta, GA for 39 years, passed away on May 29, 2012 at his residence. “Ed” was born in Byron, GA on February 20, 1927 to Stuart Edward and Hazel Cherry Dyer. Ed attended Lanier High School in Macon, GA. He enlisted in the Reserves at the end of WWII, serving in the Merchant Marines from 1946-1948 in the Pacific. He then attended and graduated from Georgia Technical Institute in 1952 where he obtained a BS degree in Industrial Management. He was also a member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity. After he moved to Marietta, he worked in the refrigeration business in the Atlanta Market for over 25 years until his retirement in 1998. Ed was an active Methodist his entire life. He attended Powers Ferry United Methodist Church for many years and most recently a member of East Cobb United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the East Cobb Lions Club. His love of church, family and friends provided him the greatest joy. He loved attending Georgia Tech football games for over 40 years. Ed is survived by his sister, Cherry (Dyer) Cape and brother-in-law Art Cape, of Jacksonville, FL. Surviving children and grandchildren include: Son and daughter-in-law, Major General and Mrs. Stuart Dyer of Gainesville, GA. Daughter, Julie Elizabeth Dyer of Dalton, GA; Daughter and son-in-law, Catherine and Gerald Potter of Roswell, GA. Granddaughters; Eileen Dyer of Copenhagen, Denmark and Corinne Elizabeth Dyer of Cardiff, Wales; He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Lieutenant Colonel (Ret) Richard and sister-in-law, Jean Morris as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation services will be held on Thursday May 31st from 5-7 pm at H.M. Patterson & Son Funeral Home at 1157 Old Canton Road, Marietta, GA 30068 (770-977-9485). Funeral services will be held at East Cobb United Methodist Church on Friday, June 1st at 4:00 p.m., 2325 Roswell Rd, Marietta, GA 30062 (770) 971-3643. A graveside burial will be held on Sunday, June 3rd, at Liberty United Methodist Church, 6511 Houston Rd, in Macon, GA at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Dollars for Scholars program at East Cobb United Methodist Church or to the Georgia Chapter Alzheimer’s Association, 41 Perimeter Center East, Suite 550, Atlanta, GA 30346.
