Thomas “Scott” Calvert, age 76, of Marietta, Georgia, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 24, 2023. He was born in Lambert, Mississippi on April 12, 1947 to Earline Bailey White and Thomas Calvert, who preceded him in death.
Scott graduated from Crowder High School in Mississippi, where he was class vice-president. He attended Northwest Community College and then enlisted in the US Army in 1969. He was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany and assigned to Military Personnel Headquarters.
Scott began his professional career as a bond salesman at Robinson Humphrey in 1972 in Atlanta, Georgia. He went on to work at three other financial institutions as a financial advisor. Throughout his career, he won numerous awards, and gained the trust and confidence of countless families and colleagues. Although he retired from Morgan Stanley in 2021, his passion to support his clients continued up until his death.
Scott was an avid golfer and was fortunate to play at some amazing courses around the world including St. Andrew’s, Augusta National, and Pebble Beach. However, his favorite memories were playing with his friends at Indian Hills. He also enjoyed his Harley Davidson Motorcycle and riding in many charity rides and the Trail of Tears. The most unforgettable ride being on September 5, 2002, when he rode his motorcycle from Atlanta to Ground Zero in New York City. He adored his church family at Mt. Bethel Church where he enjoyed volunteering his time and his Men’s Group bible study.
Scott was affectionately known as “Papa” to his six grandchildren. He set the bar incredibly high as a grandparent and was present in every aspect of their lives. Scott loved to travel with them, cook for them, study with them, take them to church, have sleepovers and never missed a chance to cheer them on at their sporting events.
Scott will be deeply missed by all that knew him, but his legacy will live on through the lives he touched and his family and friends. He was a true southern gentleman with a kind heart and gentle demeanor.
