Vernon Lester Coward

Vernon Lester Coward, age 92, of Marietta, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, March 17, 2021. Vernon was born April 11, 1928 to Lessie Matthews Coward and John Clark Coward.

Vernon graduated from Clemson A & M University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He retired from Lockheed Georgia. Vernon enjoyed flying as a licensed private pilot in is spare time for many years and volunteered with the Civil Air Patrol. He was fond of the outdoors and enjoyed hiking, camping, fishing, boating and riding motorcycles, but above all he treasured time with his family.

Vernon was preceded in death by father John Clark Coward; mother Lessie Matthews Coward; and brother Robert Earl Coward.

Vernon is survived by his wife, Evelyn "Lynn" Coward; daughter Diane Elizabeth Karagianis (Mark); daughter Susan Jane Coward; and son Michael Alan Coward (Abigail); grandchildren Lauren and Jasmine Murdock; brothers Ray Francis Coward and Roy Landis Coward.

A visitation will occur Monday, March 22, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at H.M. Patterson & Son-Canton Hill Chapel, 1157 Old Canton Road Ne, Marietta, GA 30068. A graveside service will occur Monday, March 22, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Cheatham Hill Cemetery, 1861 Dallas Hwy, Marietta, GA 30064.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Vernon's memory may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital , www.stjude.org.

Dear Coward Family,

Sorry to hear about your loss. My mom Mary Richards shared this sad news. I was young when we lived on Engineers Drive. I remember my sister or I getting our hair caught in the swing cable. Mr Coward jumped the fence and cut the hair free. A real super hero.
